The Countdown for the Top 10 Unbreakable Sports Records: Numbers 4-2

4. NBA Basketball:

John Wooden's 88 Straight Wins
  • This record goes back to a time when college basketball players stayed around for 4 years and their athletic programs became dynasties. Coach John Wooden under the influence of the Wizard of Westwood and with Bill Walton showing the way, led the UCLA Bruins to 88 straight games between 2 losses to Notre Dame on January 23, 1971 and January 19, 1974.  this span of games included three of the record seven straight NCAA championships won from 1967 to 1973. No team has gone undefeated for even one season since 1976 nor won two straight titles in a row.
  Cy Young

3. MLB Baseball:
Cy Young's 511 wins
  • Cy Young pitched from 1890 to 1911, an era when the pitcher stayed in the whole game. He threw 749 complete games out of 815 starts. One of today's pitchers would have to average 25 wins in one season for 21 years to pass Young.  The average starts is currently 35 per year.  It would be an impossible task.
 Jerry Rice

2. NFL Football:
Jerry Rice's 22,895 yards

  • Rice played the same style of game as current players but his accomplishments can't be touched. Rice's career began in 1985 and still holds records also for the most catches (1,549) and touchdowns (197).  A current young player like Randy Moss would have to average 1,400 yards per year for the next 10 seasons which would make him 38 years old.
