Tiger Woods,32, played his toughest major PGA golf tournament yesterday according to his trainer, Hank Haney. Playing through a tremendous amount of pain and little preparation, Woods won his 14th major PGA golf win against Rocco Mediate, ranked 158, with 0 PGA golf major wins. The 108th U.S. Open at Torry Pines was considered yesterday's afternoon soap opera as it pre-empted the soaps on Monday.
This was Woods first tournament after a 10 week layoff following surgery to his left knee to remove cartilage.
This major $1.35 million PGA golf victory broke Wood's tie with Ben Hogan for career wins, tied him with Bobby Jones for the most USGA national titles with nine, and put him for 4 wins shy of tying Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major wins.
Rocco Mediate,45, a free-spirited underdog stated, "I almost..I just about got him," after missing a 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole that would have made him the oldest PGA U.S. Open tournament winner. |
